how did the cat get so fat ?
The thing is...
...here are some extracts from the TIME magazine article "You Are Not My Friend" written by Joël Stein for the November 19, 2007 issue (well, you can probably now tell that yes I have a subscription to TIME magazine, and yes I usually apreciate what Mr Stein writes). The article sub-title is "Yes, we're on Facebook. But I don't care about yout cat. And stop poking me"... and of course, I felt directly concerned..."(...) This is hard to say to a friend, but our relationship is starting to take up too much of my time. It's weird that I know more about you than I do about actual friends I hang out with in person (...) In fact, I know more about you than I know about myself. I have no idea what my favorite movie or song or TV show is. Last I checked, they all involved Muppets. (...)But really these sites aren't about connecting and reconnecting. They're a platform for self-branding. (...) We're showing you our best posed, retouched photos. We're listing the Pynchon books we want you to think we've read all the way through. We're allowing other people to write whatever they want about us on our walls, unless we don't like it, in which case we just erase it. If we had that much privacy in real life, the bathrooms at that Minnesota airport would be empty. (...)"
This is just my type of humor...
And I hope it's yours too...
Green & Confused
Bio-ethanol actually pollutes more than it saves, wash your jeans and you're killing the planet, organic cottons exploits children, buying local products is probably not as green as you'd think... I'm just too confused...
"The local-food movement is (...) part of the green lobby that measures improvement by self-denial more than actual impact - considering shipping food in containers is often more energy-efficient than a local farmer trucking small amounts that are then purchased on a separate weekend farmers'-market trip you take in your SUV. So I'm going to keep buying food from my foreign neighbors. Because it's the only way Americans learn about other countries, other than by bombing them."(Joel Stein, "Extreme Eating", Time magazine - January 21, 2008)
"I'll not budge an inch"
This weekend I went to Paris to see "La Mégère Apprivoisée" ("The Taming of the Shrew") by Shakespeare, at the "Comédie Française" theatre, probably the most prestigious theatre in France, for those who are not french natives... It was, once again (I saw "Cyrano" 1,5 years ago there) amazing! From now on, I will go see as many plays as I can at the Comédie Française. The 2 I've seen were probably the best plays I've seen until now. It's the type I like, lively, rich in expressions & decorations, etc. This last one was just delicious... and so funny actually, I had tears in my eyes. As I know one of the actors, some might say I'm not objective, but really it's the whole play I adored. I recommend anyone to go there. I went with non french-speaking friends, and they could still enjoy the play!
