Why should i be good?

Brace yourselves guys, a new issue of my zine should appear in the next few months. With a new name too.

"You better lose yourself in the music, the moment. You own it." (Eminem)

Nate Sr.: You hang on to your pain like it means something. Like it's worth something. Well, let me tell you - it's not worth s***. Let it go! Infinite possibilities, and all he can do is whine.
David: Well, what am I supposed to do?
Nate Sr.: What do you think? You can do *anything* you lucky *** - you're alive! What's a little pain compared to that?
David: It can't be that simple.
Nate Sr.: What if it is?

Well I've watched the final episode of the final (5th) season of Six Feet Under. I'll miss the serie. I found this last episode far from being sad (kind of positive actually) and I was surprisingly annoyed at the usage of a certain car for the whole end of the episode.
The final episode made me want to get up and enjoy every minute of life - now. The song, "Breathe" by Sia, that they used... well I'm not sure it was the most suitable, even though I do love the song. I would've used that Eminem one (see title of post).
Ah, life...

Do You Like Me...

...is a wonderful song by Fugazi. It's old. It rocks.

Your eyes like crashing jets
Fixed in stained glass
But not religious
You should pay rent in my mind
Say like the french say "bonsoir regret a demain"
Do you like me I guess

White witness moves to petition the state of virginia for 27 prisons
While in bethesda an office flaming
Youth group singing
Firemen calling in
Lockheed lockheed martin marietta
Do you like me I guess

End of the lesson
Time for one question
End of the lesson
Time for... one more question
I got a question.
I got a question.
I got a question.

Do you like me?

You HAVE to!

Did you know that in Belgium, once you are on the voting lists, you HAVE to go vote. Not voting with no valid excuse, will result in you being requested to go in front of some Royal (Belgium is a kingdom, remember) Authority and you could have some "punishment" (a fine from 25 to 50 euros the first time, then up to 125 euros!!!)...
That's kind of odd for me. In France, you can be registered but you don't HAVE to go vote. I mean I do think Voting is a duty as well as a right, but going to the extreme of MAKING people go vote is rather a weird idea for me (maybe my french roots are showing).

Apparently, the only countries left with compulsory voting are Belgium, Greece, Luxembourg and Lichtenstein, in Europe. For the rest of the world, there's Australia also.

I just dicovered that because European members can vote this year for the "Communales" elections (like city parliament elections) in October.

Oh the cool thing, is that in Belgium, they have the Electronic Voting technology. Kind of neat.

For Sale...

...A ticket to DJ Shadow's concert this coming Thursday (June 15th) at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels... Because I can't go anymore (I'm quite sad, I've never seen DJ Shadow play, boohooo...)

...And while I'm at it, I'm also selling my car, a nice little Renault Clio. But I highly doubt I'll find a buyer here :-)

If you don't know what to read...

...And you can read in Spanish (not super high level needed), go read Juanjo Saez' books. Very good. A mix of comic strips with written texts. Very nice. Funny. Interesting. I'm reading "El Arte - Conversaciones imaginarias con mi madre"... It's great. Some comments on Art, some comments on his relationship with his mother. I wonder if the books will be translated in other languages. They should.

Madrid, part drei

And some more photos, again, there was some problem to include them in the previous post, so I just created a new post :-)

This is the Matador, on calle de la Cruz, that I really liked, good drinks, small place, good snack, but I think I've already mentionned that place in my very first Madrid-related post.

And this is the reason why I loved that place. Hee hee hee.

And another address for a fast good meal. This place (Fast Good) is owned by Ferran Adria, OK it's not his fancy reastaurant and experimental food, but it is also an experimental place, the idea being that you can have good fast food. Which was true. Except it wasn't really that fast. Perhaps for spanish standards ;-) But it was good. So yeah, I can now say I've eaten a one of Ferran Adria's restaurants. Woohoo!!!

Madrid, part deux

A selection of photos from the week-end in Madrid, that have been around and that I've been slow to put online...

This blue bottle is a water bottle, a pretty bottle, that Isabelle stole as a vengeance for the expensive food at a restaurant next to the Prado Museum. Total rip off. The only funny thing was the american couple next to us. The woman was in a mega bitchy mood, she was complaining all the the time, didn't want to eat anything, kept looking at us, etc. Very... well, very strange. And of course, we found them again right in front of us in the line to enter the Prado.

Where we saw this... The famous "Meninas" by Velasquez. The painting is pretty amazing, when you stand in front of it. Velasquez painted himself painting, and in the mirror behind him, you see who he is painting. Pretty neat.

I also really liked "The gardens of delight" (a tryptic) by El Bosco (Bosch). The painting is perhaps 500 years old, and it looks so modern. A little Tim Burtonesque. Interesting.

And I really really liked quite a few paintings by Goya. Like the one with the dog.

At the Parc del Retiro, there was an installation at the Cristal Palace by Korean artist Kimsooja (I had never heard of her before). It was really nice. Some light-diffracting transparent films had been applied all over the windows (and there are lots) and with the sunlight, it created rainbow rays all over the place, and around the palace, on the ground. Really poetic.

Proofread carefully to see if you any words out. (Author Unknown)

I’m a little tired of e-mails, sms and online blogs. I’ve cleaned up my “childhood” room this weekend (at my mom’s home) and I found all these old and fun (or not) letters and notes, and now I want to send and receive real letters. Of course, don’t stop sending e-mails. I just want EVERYTHING ;-)
